Kidney Organoid Development Service

Kidney organoids are in vitro kidney models generated from stem cells in three-dimensional (3D) culture. It is considered as an important tool to study normal and diseased human kidney development. They have remarkable similarity to natural kidney tissue in terms of cell type, morphology and function. In this context, CD BioSciences offers kidney organoid development service.

Overview of Kidney Organoids

Fig 1. Kidney

Most current kidney organoids are three-dimensional structures formed by pluripotent stem cells, which mimic the developmental process of human kidney in vitro and undergo induced differentiation. Although they are not true kidneys, kidney organoids can form various structures similar to human kidney units, such as glomerular pedicle cells, proximal tubules, distal tubules, collecting ducts, etc. It can be used for cell repair and treatment of kidney diseases, such as mimicking kidney development and disease onset, and screening for drugs to improve kidney function.

Applications of Pancreatic Organoids

Organoid has become increasingly popular in scientific research. The existing kidney organoids are mainly used in scientific research. Although there is no clinical application yet, it may play a greater role with the continuous development of science and technology.

Disease Modeling

The renal organoid has a certain structure that can reflect the disease phenotype in a macroscopic manner. Because it contains multiple cell types, multiple cell interactions can be studied. And compared to animal models for in vivo experiments, kidney organoids have the additional advantage of being cultured in an in vitro environment thereby facilitating control of experimental conditions.

Drug Screening

Kidney organoids can also be used to screen drugs for nephrotoxicity or therapeutic effects. The high-throughput nature of organoids makes them suitable for large-scale screening of potential therapeutic agents or for testing the nephrotoxicity of drugs. Researchers have evaluated organoid function as an experimental model by examining the effect of nephrotoxic drugs such as cisplatin. Personalized Medicine.

Personalized Medicine

A major goal of personalized medicine is to correct the phenotype by directly restoring, eliminating, or repairing the mutated gene in the patient. Renal organoids have been used to evaluate a novel gene mutation involved in the development of kidney disease.

Fig 5. Regeneration
Regenerative Medicine

The use of conventional dialysis and kidney transplantation to treat diseases such as acute and chronic renal failure has limiting factors. The lack of donor organs and the lifelong use of immunosuppressive drugs are among the major challenges facing conventional treatment. Therefore, regeneration by kidney in order to fully restore or establish its normal structure and function is one of the prospects for the development of related diseases.
