Tendon Tissue Development Service
Artificial tendon is used as a repair material for severely injured finger intrasheath flexor tendon rupture and for patients with severe scarring around the tendon in case of tendon laxity. The artificial tendon tissue is viable and functional, allowing for morphological repair and functional reconstruction of tendon defects. CD BioSciences is introducing a tissue engineering tendon development service to add vitality to the development of artificial tendons.
Overview of Tendon Tissue Engineering
Tendon injury and deficiency is one of the common surgical problems. Clinically, for tendon repair, autologous tendon graft or tendon transfer method is mainly used to repair. However, the application is limited due to the limited source of autologous tendon and the tendency to cause functional deficiency in the donor area. Allogeneic tendon grafts have rejection reactions in different reservoirs. Therefore, there is a need to find new avenues of tendon repair. The development of tendon tissue engineering has provided new ideas for clinical applications.
- Grocess of Tendon Tissue Engineering
Tissue engineering of artificial tendons can be divided into in vitro tissue engineering technology and in vivo tissue engineering technology with respect to the technical route. In vitro tissue engineering of tendons involves obtaining host cells from the host tissue and culturing them in vitro. It is then implanted into a scaffold material made of a biodegradable substance to form a composite implant, which is finally implanted back into the host body. In vivo tissue-engineered tendons are implanted directly into the host body with no exogenous cells. And then the host cells directly enter the implant and transform it into the original tissue.

Challenges in Tendon Tissue Engineering
The focus of tissue engineered tendon researches includes seed cells, scaffold materials, mechanical stimulation, and chemical stimulation. Due to the complex in vivo environment, tissue-engineered tendons have long repair cycles and scar adhesions tend to affect the repair results. Therefore, there is a need to further improve the biological activity of engineered tendons.
Applications of Tissue-engineered Tendon
- Tendon Defects Treatment
Tissue-engineered tendons are used primarily for clinical solutions to tendon defects. The resulting tendon tissue is viable and functional, allowing for morphological repair and functional reconstruction of tendon defects. The artificial tendon can also be arbitrarily shaped to the shape of the defective tendon to achieve morphological repair. - Biological Research
Artificial tendons can be used for biological research. A variety of biological indicators can be detected, such as the morphological structure of collagen fibers.
